RBI Grade B Syllabus

The RBI Grade B Syllabus is somewhat similar to the other bank exams. Every year, the Reserve Bank of India releases the notification for the recruitment of candidates for the post of RBI Grade B Officers. The vacancies are released every year for three posts which are Generalist, DEPR & DSIM. Before moving on to the syllabus part, let us first focus on the selection process. 

  • The RBI Grade B Selection Process consists of three stages which are Phase 1 (Preliminary Exam), Phase 2 (Mains Exam) & Phase 3 (Interview).
  • For Generalist Post, Phase 1 will be an objective paper and the subjects will be GA, Reasoning, English Language & Quantitative Aptitude. Phase 2 will have 3 papers, Paper I will be of ESI, 50% objective & 50% descriptive. Paper II will be of English (Writing Skills), descriptive and Paper III will be FM, 50% objective & 50% descriptive.
  • For DEPR & DSIM, 3 papers will be conducted. Paper I will be objective type and Paper II & III will be descriptive type.

RBI Grade B Exam Pattern 2024 (Phase 1: Prelims)

The RBI Grade B Prelims exam consists of 4 sections: Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language. The detailed exam pattern in a tabular format is presented below along with the duration:

There will be a 1/4th negative marking for each question. Candidates, who will secure minimum marks separately for each test as prescribed, will be shortlisted for Phase 2 of the examination based on the aggregate marks obtained in Phase 1.

RBI Grade B Exam Pattern 2024 (Phase 2: Mains)

The RBI Grade B Mains exam consists of three papers: Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3. Papers 1 and 3 are a combination of both objective and descriptive questions, while Paper 2 is a completely descriptive paper. The detailed format is presented below in a tabular format.

For both Paper I and III, there will be 30 questions and 50 marks for Objective questions (some questions carrying 2 marks each and some carrying 1 mark each).

Note: 

  • In the case of Descriptive questions, 6 questions will be asked, of which candidates will be required to attempt 4 questions (2 of 15 marks each (with difficulty level) and 2 of 10 marks each). In case, the candidate answers more than 4 questions in descriptive, the first 4 shall be evaluated.
  • All question papers (in both Phases, except the test of English) will be set bilingually in Hindi and English.

RBI Grade B Interview

Those who have cleared the Mains of the RBI Grade B will be called for an Interview which carries 75 marks. The final selection is based on the marks obtained on the Mains (Phase 2) and Interview.

RBI Grade B Syllabus 2024 for Written Exam (For DEPR & DISM)

(i) Standard of papers on Economics would be that of Master's Degree examination in Economics of any Central University in India. 

(ii) Syllabus for English: The paper on English shall be framed in a manner to assess the writing skills including expression and understanding of the topic
The standard of papers would be that of the Master's Degree examination of any Central University in India.

Paper-I: Questions would cover Probability: Definition of Probability, Standard distribution, Large and small sample theory, Analysis of Variance, Estimation, Testing of Hypotheses, Multivariate analysis, and Stochastic Processes.

Paper-II: Questions would cover (i) Probability and Sampling, (ii) Linear Models and Economic Statistics, (iii) Statistical Inference: Estimation, Testing of hypothesis and Non-parametric Test, (iv) Stochastic Processes, (v) Multivariate analysis and (vi) Numerical Analysis and Basic Computer Techniques. There will be sufficient choice for candidates to attempt the required number of questions from any three or more of the above six groups.

Paper-III: English: The paper on English shall be framed in a manner to assess the writing skills including expression and understanding of the topic.

A. Yes, there is negative marking in Phase 1 of the RBI Grade B exam. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer in RBI Grade B Phase 1.

Q. What is the Application Fee for RBI Grade B 2024 Exam? +

Expected Application fee for the RBI Grade B is as follows:
For GEN/OBC/EWSs - Rs 850 + 18% GST
For SC/ST/PwBD - Rs 100 + 18% GST
For RBI Staff - Nil.
